Launched: TVS Apache RR 310
TVS' new flagship is here, and it looks pretty Akula
The wait for this one has bordered on tiring, if not endless, but after much teasing and prodding, TVS has unleashed it: this, world, is the Apache RR 310 (or the production-spec Akula, which you have spent countless days dreaming about), and it is a real weapon.
Born out of TVS' four-year-long partnership with BMW Motorrad, the RR 310 is the most potent Apache there has ever been. It looks striking (and quite a lot like it did in concept form) with its propped-forward stance, trellis frame and that devilish tail-lamp, but there's also function to go with the form: the vents under the projector headlamps are positioned to improve air flow to the intake. The RR 310 has been wind tunnel-tested extensively and with a drag coefficient of 0.26, is said to be the slipperiest bike in its class.
It's also packing plenty of firepower. With a 312cc, fuel-injected, reverse-inclined single-cylinder motor, the RR 310 is blessed with a total of 34bhp at 9,700rpm and 27.3Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. With the best-in-class power-to-weight ratio, TVS claims it'll crack 0-100kph in 7.17 seconds and pull all the way up to 160kph. A six-speed gearbox comes standard, as do KYB-tuned suspension, dual-channel ABS and Michelin rubber developed specifically for the RR 310.
Now for the sweetest part of the deal: TVS is asking for Rs 2.05 lakh (ex-showroom) for the RR 310. What's more, when you buy one, you can sign up to visit the TVS factory and watch your bike being built, and next year, TVS will also organise the RR Cup, an international one-make race series which you could possibly end up participating in.
