Marquez secures second pole position in France

Jerez was anything but a snooze-fest. Greasy conditions meant that riders could never rest easy. With rain predicted for the weekend, it looked like there would be more spills this time around. The rain never arrived, but the crashes did.

On another rubber-unfriendly MotoGP weekend, Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa endured falls, the only difference being that the former fell during the practice session, and came back strongly to fend off an insipired run by the reigning world champion, Jorge Lorenzo and bag pole position for Sunday. Pedrosa on the other hand, was not so fortunate.

He met with an accident similar to that of Marquez, but this was in the qualifying session itself. No matter how hard Pedrosa tried to wring his Honda once he was back on his feet, he just couldn't make up for the lost time and could only fetch 6th place.

Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso put in his best performance as a Desmosedici rider by securing 3rd position on the grid (despite Cal Crutchlow's frenzied run towards the end after a red flag-introducing crash), but towards the end of the session, it was all about the battle between the two Spaniards - the champion, and the challenger.

Lorenzo, who still hasn't quite gotten over Jerez, gave the newbie a run for his money, and lost out on 1st place by 0.030 seconds. Not 0.3 seconds, but 0.030 seconds. The term 'a whisker' would probably not be even close to describing that sort of a gap.

Sunday awaits. Three different teams on the front row. Who will rule at LeMans?

Qualifying:
1. Marc Marquez
2. Jorge Lorenzo
3. Andrea Dovizioso

6. Dani Pedrosa
