Sherco-TVS Racing’s Santolino Lorenzo wins the 2018 Indian Baja
Lorenzo was followed by CS Santosh and teammate Abdul Tanveer
Last weekend, we saw the third edition of the Indian Baja come to an end and here’s what the final podium looks like: Santolino Lorenzo (Sherco-TVS) bagged the first place, followed by CS Santosh (Hero MotoSports) and Abdul Tanveer (Sherco-TVS). The six-rider team of Sherco-TVS was the dominating force at this year’s rally; four of them finished in the top five. RE Rajendra and R Nataraj couldn’t finish the rally on a high note due to a crash.
With a time of 4.13:18s, Hero MotoSports' CS Santosh claimed the second spot at the rally. Santosh has had terrible luck in the Thar desert at India Baja in the past and was pleased to finish on the podium. “I’ve had a good weekend. Over the years, one thing or the other has happened in the desert ever since I started competing with Hero. This is my favourite desert, but there has always been an incident and I’ve crashed. This time I kept it on two wheels, and I’m happy to make it to the finish,” said CS Santosh in an interview with TopGear India.
Commenting on his win, Sherco-TVS Rally Factory Team’s Santolino Lorenzo said, “It was good to be able to leverage learnings from my training and the bike supported me through the rally. I also want to thank my teammates and the technical crew of TVS Racing for their support through India Baja and look forward to my next outing.”
To give you a summary of one of the most demanding motorsports event taking place in India, the riders cover a distance of more than 500km in extremely hot conditions. The top finisher at the 2018 Indian Baja, Santolino Lorenzo now gets a free entry to the next Merzouga Rally as well as to the Dakar Rally.
