The automotive markets might be slowing down but scooter sales are on a rise. So, it comes as no surprise that Yamaha, a bike maker associated usually with premium sports bikes has also joined its home rivals Honda and Suzuki in the gearless scooter market.

What makes the Ray so significant for Yamaha is that it's the first time the Japanese bike maker will be launching a scooter in India.

Engine is a single cylinder 113cc motor which makes 7bhp and 8.1Nm of torque. The power rating is similar to that of the Honda Dio, the Ray's main rival. Overall the fuel economy is also expected to be the same as the Dio's 50kpl.

Though we are not very happy with the female centric approach that Yamaha has take with the Ray. And if you don't opt for the Plush Pink colour option the Ray looks pretty good. Then why a Yamaha for females only? Why Yamaha!

Price is a big factor to grab initial sales. The Yamaha Ray is priced at Rs 46 thousand (ex-showroom, Delhi)
