Yamaha launches Alpha scooter at Auto Expo 2014
Here's another Yamaha scoot - based on the Ray, but not nearly as feminine
Yamaha added another product to its two-wheeler lineup in the country after staging the launch of the automatic scooter, the Alpha, at the Auto Expo a short while ago. The Alpha, now the second scooter that Yamaha has to offer in India, is powered by the same air-cooled 7.1bhp, 113cc 4-stroke that powers the Yamaha Ray.
On the overall styling front, the Alpha doesn't radically set itself apart from the main competition in the form of the Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter and Suzuki Access - that's what we can say after seeing the similarly-styled faring-mounted turn indicators, headlamp unit, side panels and rear section.
Yamaha claims an attractive mileage figure of 62kpl and 21 litres of underseat storage space with the Alpha. What isn't very attractive is the price tag of Rs 49,515 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Yamaha expects the automatic scooter, which is targeted at family customers, to help improve their domestic sales figures from 4.6 lakh units in the domestic market last year, to 6 lakh units in 2014.
