Yamaha unveils the R25 concept
At the ongoing Tokyo motor show, there was a pleasant surprise at the Yamaha stall. While we were impressed with the Bolt cafe and the PES1, nothing could match the excitement around the R25 concept showcased here. Yes, you heard that right, this is the big brother to the R15 already being sold in India.
As you would have guessed by now the number '25' denotes the cubic capacity that stands at 250cc. And here is the best part. The R25 is not a bored out version of the R15's 150cc motor. Instead, it is an all-new, in-line, twin-cylinder motor that is mated to a six-speed transmission.
Sadly, as this is a concept, Yamaha has refrained from giving out the power and torque figures. We are guessing it’s capable enough to pump out anything close to 36bhp while there should be a health dose of torque available from lower rev band.
As far as the looks go, Yamaha has just dipped it in the M1 livery. There is no headlight or taillight to exactly tell you how the actual product would look like, but we think it will look like a scaled down R1.
A million dollar question, will it come to India? We don't know yet as this is still a concept and might be a year away from production. In that case, we may just see an India-launch anytime in 2015.
