NASCAR Charlotte race is now ‘TopGear 300’

This year Nascar got slightly better. Because on May 28, 2011 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, the drivers will be revving up to compete in a newly named race: the TopGear 300.

Yes, our buddies at TopGear US have joined forces with the track owners in North Carolina to rename the Memorial Day clash in honour of the world’s favourite little motoring show.

US TopGear presenters Tanner, Rutledge and Adam will be starting the race, and highlights from TopGear US will also air during the weekend on the world’s biggest high-definition video screen, which stretches some 200 feet wide.

We trust the dancing mayor from the Blue Ridge Parkway area will be suitably delighted.

As Jeremy said recently: “TopGear is our baby, so you can understand why Hammond, May and I were anxious about passing it on to the presenters of the US show. We needn’t have worried because TopGear is clearly in safe hands, even if they do insist on speaking in those stupid accents.

“Watching an episode from series one with Richard and James, we found ourselves in a genuinely heated debate about which of the presenters’ cars was best. We were just three ordinary chaps watching a car show and loving it, which is exactly what TopGear should be.”
