Aprilia SR 150: Blurred Lines

About 60 clicks down the NH4 out of Pune city: “Nice wheels, guy, where are you from? And where are you going?” asks this elderly gentleman astride a Royal Enfield Bullet 350, covered shoulder-to-toe in an all too familiar brown standard-issue uniform and speaking in a language I’m not comfortable conversing in. “Riding from Pune to Goa,” is my reply, exhaustingly close to half of my vocabulary in the local tongue. A look of disbelief on his face, he glances at his watch, which at the time reads 2pm, “And when are you going to stop for the night?” he continues. “Nine tonight. Goa all the way.” That’s my plan. The man now has hysteria written all over his face and his lower-ranked pillion rider snickers and mumbles something to him before the grinning pair sarcastically wish me all the best and ride off. Mildly awkward but this wouldn’t be the last time I would be on the receiving end of some sarcasm upon mention of my roadtrip.
