Cars of 2014: Vol.2
Volkswagen may not have a lot of new cars to launch in 2014, but there's just one, and it may prove to be 'the one' that VW needs at this time. The Taigun concept was shown a fairly long time ago, but now, it's time for it to be put into production. The Taigun measures in at under four metres, seats five, and the concept was powered by a 108bhp 1.0-litre TSI engine, all of which suggests how VW is squarely aiming at the Ford EcoSport with its little SUV.
The Taigun, when it comes to India, is most likely to be offered with the 1.2-litre three-pot diesel, apart from the turbo'ed 1-litre petrol. Now, the three-cylinder diesel's 74bhp may seem inadequate on paper, but do bear in mind that the Taigun concept weighed in at just 985 kilos, which is bound to help the mini-SUV when it comes to performance and fuel efficiency.
The Up hatchback was too expensive a prospect for India, but the Up-based Taigun will fit into our compact SUV market perfectly.
Expected launch: Late-2014
