The Sail delivers 13.5kpl in city and 17.1kpl on the highway to the DZires 13.9kpl in the city and 17.6kpl figure. The DZire DDiS ZDi tested here costs around Rs 7.50 lakh. The Chevrolet Sail will set you back by an identical Rs 7.51 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
Most of our complaints about the DZire are minor. Its smaller boot is okay for everyday use but won’t do for that airport run. The light cabin colours tend to soil faster and on cold start-up, the car shudders. But Maruti offers a lot more in terms of standard equipment. Extras like automatic air-conditioning and steering mounted controls give it an edge over the Sail. The DZire also has the clear advantage in the cabin quality department. Also, when it comes to reselling the car in three-four years, a Maruti will fetch better value making the DZire the better overall alternative here. So the DZire remains the more satisfying car to own. Until next month at least, till the Honda Amaze arrives.
