EcoSport vs EcoSport
Ford offers a lot of engine options on this. To begin with, there’s the 1.5-litre petrol block that’s good for 110bhp and 140Nm. This is the same engine that you find in the Fiesta, and it’s the only naturally aspirated engine you can have in the EcoSport. Here, this engine is mated to a dual-clutch six-speed auto ’box. We were never fond of this ’box even in the Fiesta and nothing changes here either. It’s probably the laziest dual-clutch ’box we’ve ever driven. Clocking 13.75sec to a hundred, it’s the slowest of the EcoSports. And the least fuel efficient (city kpl: 10.3, highway kpl: 13.7).
With the EcoBoost, America has finally found a replacement for displacement. Courtesy a turbocharger. And with that, this tiny 1.0-litre three-pot petrol engine puts out an impressive 123bhp and 170Nm. But on the road, it doesn’t feel very impressive. It has a strong mid-range that helps highway driving but city driving needs some effort. You get into the fun power band only past 2,000rpm. Some strong technology has gone into this engine – direct injection and turbocharging among other things, and only two other cars around the Rs 10 lakh mark give you that in India – but at a higher price.
