Mahindra Arjun 8085: Farmville
As I’m gunning from one end of the farm to the other, I look down at the instruments and find there is no speedometer – because speed has nothing to do with ploughing a field. Turns out, in tractor world, speed is indicated by the engine rpm, and the 8085 revs all the way to 2,300rpm – that’s as far as it goes.
The Arjun 8085 is the most powerful tractor in Mahindra’s stable, equipped with an in-line 4-cylinder 3329cc diesel motor that makes 83bhp. That may not sound like much but the thing to remember here is that this is not meant to carry you from one town to the next at triple-digit speeds.
Still, the 8085’s cabin carries its share of creature comforts. It has a large cabin area inside but the air-conditioning does a good job of cooling it without draining the engine of power. This becomes clear as I drive around for a few action shots in perfect comfort – even as my photographer stands at a distance and wilts in the sun.
