Mahindra XUV 500: Tri-nation drive

Adventure comes in all sorts of shapes and flavours. And the one that came to us last month included flying in a microlight – with a motor just big enough to run a lawn mower – a few feet from the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. And hiking all morning down a three-foot wide path to go see a 100-year old monastery. If this is not your idea of adventure, best to skip this story altogether. If it is, here’s how the rest of it went.

Now ordinarily, getting to these places to do these kinds of things is something of an adventure in itself. And a half. Because to reach this place, the way we did, involves 3,000km of driving through the Himalayan foothills. And if you think you’ll simply clock 500km a day and do the trip in less than a week, well, think again, my friend. The roads at this altitude don’t allow great speeds; you need to be calm and patient to make it to the top.
