Merc CLS vs Audi A7
Merc’s engineers should, however, seriously consider relocating the gearlever to the centre of the console rather than where the indicator stalks are now. It’ll simply add to driver appeal. Where the CLS also excels is ride, especially at higher speeds. The AIR-matic suspension feels better composed than the Audi’s and you get a more pliant ride. Comfort mode results in a thick magic carpet ride that is smoother and quieter than the A7’s making the Merc the better sporty luxury barge here.
Both these cars have a different set of virtues. The A7 comes on top in the style department and the cabin has a greater sense of occasion. Being a diesel, it’ll be cheaper to run as well. The Merc on the other hand looks just as phenomenal but offers a better ride and a marginally more involving drive. If those are things that impress you, the Merc should be your choice. For us, the Audi’s combination of diesel power, classy insides and sinewy lines did the trick.
