Porsche Cayman S: Harbouring greatness
Imagine a Ferrari charging you to put the yellow behind the black Prancing Horse. Or imagine BMW saying the standard emblem will have black propeller blades. If you want blue propeller blades, pay more. Then of course, there is that whole array of buttons in the Porsche that make a sportscar a sportscar. Frankly, these extras may be loose change for a guy paying nearly a crore for a car. But if you are charging a crore, just put in a rear wiper and coloured badges at the very least.
At about Rs 95 lakh (ex-showroom), the Cayman isn’t cheap. But it’s a bargain compared to a 911, a Lamborghini, an Audi R8 or anything as exotic or fun to drive. And even they aren’t as well-balanced as this machine. Frankly, the Cayman isn’t going to get any attention at the ultimate supercar club owner’s meet. Much like Mumbai’s eastern seaboard isn’t going to get any mention in the Mumbai tourist guidebooks. But once discovered, there’s nothing else you’d rather drive and no other place you’d rather go to.
