Porsche Panamera Turbo V8: The Doors
Ian Callum is head of design at Jaguar.
He has been responsible in the past for designs like the Aston Martin DB7 and the Vanquish. And if you think the current generation of Jags – the XF, the XJ, the F-Type look fabulous, he is the guy you doff your hat to.
He has nothing to do with Porsche, though. He has never worked with Porsche, either. But this hardcore Jaguar fan admits to two things. One, when he was four, a Porsche 356 passed by his home. He says it looked like a spaceship to him at the time, and that’s when he decided he wanted to design cars.
Two, apart from his Jaguar XKR-S and his original Mini, the one car he loves driving all day is the Porsche Panamera. He will not comment on its looks, but admits the Panamera is one of his personal favourites to drive, and that it’s one of the benchmarks for his company. And that just about sums up the Panamera. That too from one of the best designers of his time, someone who works in a company that’s one of Porsche’s fiercest rivals.
