Audi begins A3 Sedan production at Aurangabad

The soon-to-be-launched four-door A3 is now the sixth four-ringed product to be made at the company's facility in Maharashtra

The A3 Sedan is here. We've driven it. Audi's all set to launch it on August 7. Since this is supposed to be a really important offering for the company that's going to lure new buyers to its showrooms, it'd better have lots of it in stock. So, Audi's broken out the toolkit nice and early and started putting the compact sedan together at its plant in Aurangabad.

Though we await confirmation from Audi on the engine line-up front, we expect the A3 to be launched initially with a choice of two engines - a 1.8-litre, 177bhp, 250Nm TFSI petrol, and a 2.0-litre, 141bhp, 320Nm diesel. The only gearbox on offer will be a 7-speed dual-clutch, and the absence of quattro means that all the power will be directed solely at the front wheels. Still, in a car that weighs roughly 300 kilos less than the A4, progress should be swift.

Prices should hover around the Rs 28-33 lakh mark (on-road, Mumbai), and at that price point, the four-door A3 will lock horns with the Mercedes A-Class and the BMW 1 series. Calls for a match, doesn't it?
