If you thought that the ‘standard’ RS6 Avant provided you with enough performance, you wouldn't have been wrong. But some nutter at Audi thought it needs more. More power, more noise, more presence. So here is its powerful and sinister cousin, the RS6 Avant Performance. This Performance variant of the RS6 Avant costs Rs 1.65 crore (ex-showroom).

Both, the standard RS6 and Performance variant are powered by the same the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol motor. But, where it’s developing 560bhp in the standard car, it produces 597bhp in the Performance variant – that’s a boost of 37bhp. The engine is mated to an eight-speed tiptronic gearbox. The German carmaker claims that the RS6 Avant Performance will run the standard 0-100kph sprint in 3.7s (0.2s faster than the standard RS6). Speaking of an increment, the V8 produces 750Nm of pulling power, that’s 50Nm more than the standard RS6 and 190Nm more than the R8 V10 Plus.

The Performance variant gets tweaks to parts other than the engine as well. It gets 21-inch alloy wheels, a sports exhaust and rear diffuser which lend it far more presence. The super-estate is not short on luxury either, it is equipped with features such as four-zone climate control, seven-inch driver’s information display, navigation and 15-speaker surround sound system from Bang and Olufsen. Its safety list includes airbags, ABS, ESC, parking sensors and hill hold assist.

While the standard RS6 Avant costs Rs 1.48 crore, the more powerful and faster Performance variant is 17 lakh more expensive. The RS6 Performance doesn’t have a direct rival yet – there aren't too many estates on sale in the country, forget souped up ones with V8s stuffed under the hood. However, if Mercedes decides to bring its AMG E63 S wagon over here, then we might have a fight on our hands.
