BMW launches the 6 series Gran Coupe
The very first four-door coupe from BMW's stable now available in India
The four-door coupe segment has, in recent times, seen entrants in the form of the Audi A7 and the Mercedes-Benz CLS. Both are pretty desirable cars, and in a class with such potential, the only player missing was BMW. Now, BMW has decided to take the fight to the other two Germans with the 6 series Gran Coupe.
Based on a stretched 6 series Coupe platform, the 6 series Gran Coupe is BMW's first ever go at the four-door coupe. To be shipped to India as a Completely-Built Unit (CBU), the Gran Coupe will only be available as a single variant for now - the 640d Gran Coupe.
Equipped with the same 3-litre inline-six found in the 640d Coupe's engine bay, the Gran Coupe is bestowed with 313bhp and a staggering 630Nm of torque, which is delivered to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddleshifts. BMW claims a 0-100 time of 5.4 seconds, and states that the top speed is limited to 250kph, as expected.
At the Gran Coupe launch, Mr.Philipp Von Sahr, President, BMW Group India said, "The all-new BMW 6 series Gran Coupe has achieved an unusual synergy between pioneering design, uncompromising sportiness and exclusive elegance which is distinguished by its spaciousness and functionality. A BMW has never been seen in this form and it will be the first choice of the discerning customers who believe only in the best."
The price? The 640d Gran Coupe is now available at all BMW dealerships in the country, and has been priced at Rs 86.40 lakh (ex-showroom, India), with deliveries starting this month itself.
So then, this, the Audi A7 or the Merc CLS? Have your say, TopGearers.
