Daimler, owner of the Mercedes-Benz brand and also the world’s largest manufacturer of medium and Heavy-duty trucks above 6 tonnes unveiled its exclusive new brand of trucks for the Indian market - BharatBenz.

The choice of the "Bharat" part of the name shows Daimler's commitment to serving the local Indian market. For any non-Indians reading this, "Bharat" means India in our national languages. Besides sounding incredibly local, BharatBenz will offer Indian customers an entire range of trucks from 6 to 49 tons across various applications.

With the launch of Bharat Benz, Daimler is going head to head with local brands like Tata and Ashok Leyland. The company will roll out trucks in 2012 from its manufacturing facility at Oragadam, near Chennai. Spread over about 160 hectares, the facility also houses a state of the art test track. Check it out in the pics below.
