One thing's certain – Force Motors loves to play the waiting game.

Sometime in 2012, there was this buzz in the air about Force Motors launching an extreme off-road vehicle that would be a direct competitor to the Mahindra Thar. Sure enough, the Gurkha SUV was announced mid-February, 2013.

Following the announcements, Force was prompt in providing us the SUV for a full review. But right after that nothing. Now almost 16 months after the announcement, Force has finally... no, not launched it, but told us when the vehicle will finally go on sale. That's September, 2014.

To refresh your memory, the Gurkha comes with a 2.6-litre Mercedes OM 616-derived turbocharged diesel motor that makes 82bhp and 230Nm, and is married to a 5-speed gearbox. The 4WD variants come with a high-low option and a crawler feature that keeps the car moving forward on extreme gradients without even stepping on the accelerator. Since it's a BSIII engine, it will not be currently available in the metros. There will be a BSIV version coming out in the future.

Made to handle extreme terrains, the Gurkha comes with differential locks on the front and rear axles, and comes with an air intake snorkel so that the car can perform "amphibian duties".

Available in three trims, you have the option to pick it in a soft-top 4x2 avatar for Rs 7.33 lakh, and the more meaningful 4x4 versions with a soft-top or hardtop at Rs 9.77 lakh and Rs 9.95 lakh. All prices mentioned are on-road, Delhi. It comes with a 3yrs/3,00,000kms warranty.

How excited are you about the car's September launch date? Read our review for our opinion and then head over to the comments below to give us yours.
