Ford took the wraps of its compact SUV concept, the Ecosport, which will be available by end 2012.

Since the Ecosport is under 4-metres in length it will get the excise benefit that small cars get, which translates to competitive pricing. Though it wasn't official, we can expect this to be priced at around Rs 8-9 lakh. The engine options include a 1-litre 3-cylinder ecoboost engine with 120bhp of power. A 1.5 litre diesel engine is also expected to arrive later. The compact SUV will be be front wheel drive only atleast in the initial phase of sales.

The car displayed resembles around 97% of the final product. This was the global launch of the Ford Ecosport and the importance of it can be seen from the fact that Alan Mulally, President and CEO, Ford Motor Company flew in just for this event.

We'll give you more information and an exclusive interview soon.
