Honda has taken the fight for the compact sedan crown right to segment leader Maruti's door step. The company has launched the Amaze at a price of Rs 4.99 lakh for the base petrol while the base diesel costs Rs 5.99 lakh. These prices are right in the Swift DZire's territory, which sells over 10,000 units per month. Honda has also launched a car care maintenance package for two years or 40,000km (whichever comes first), for the car. The package will cost Rs 9,996 for the petrol version while the diesel will cost Rs 15,375.

The Amaze is available in four trim versions. Apart from the base E trim you can buy EX for Rs 5.24 lakh/Rs 6.24 lakh* (petrol/diesel). The next-in-line S trim comes for Rs 5.62 lakh/Rs 6.67* lakh (petrol/diesel) while the top end VX version which gets all the bells and whistles like ABS, alloys and airbags costs Rs 6.60 lakh/Rs 7.60* lakh (petrol/diesel).

The petrol version is also available in automatic version which will be sold in two trim levels. The S version costing Rs 6.62 lakh* and the VX costing Rs 7.50 lakh*. Honda has managed to keep prices competitive, largely due to the high level of localisation. Honda claims over 90 per cent localisation. Honda is currently operating its Greater Noida facility at full capacity of 440 cars per day anticipating solid demand for the Amaze. The same 1.5 diesel engine will arrive over the next 12 months in the City and Brio as well. Seems like Honda is back in the game and how.
