Hyundai reveals new coupe concept
Could this turbo V6 ‘HND-9’ concept pave the way for a new Genesis Coupe?
While most of the motoring industry is brushing up on its Goodfellas routines ahead of next week's New York Motor Show, Hyundai wants to draw your attention to the other side of the planet. Meet the HND-9 sports coupe concept.
It's the car in the rendering above, and will be revealed in full, non-digital and actually real form, at the Seoul Motor Show next week. Looks good, doesn't it?
For Hyundai, this HND-9 concept is an evolution of the company's ‘fluidic sculpture design philosophy', but for us mere mortals who don't do designspeak, it's a little glimpse into a future Genesis Coupe. Maybe.
Hyundai hasn't claimed it is, merely hinting that the HND-9 is a "luxury sports coupe concept". But with a 365bhp 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 underneath that long bonnet, an eight-speed automatic gearbox in the middle and drive sent to the rear wheels, it's got all the hallmarks of resurrecting that lovely little leftfield coupe.
The concept flourishes lie in the lovely butterfly doors, huge alloy wheels, stupendously wide grille and uniquely designed head and rear lamps for that ‘futuristic look'.
It'll go on display at Seoul on 28 March, so for now, have a look through the pics and tell us what you think. Is it time for the Genesis to return?
