Launched: 2018 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport
Tweaked styling, updated interiors highlight changes on this facelift
Land Rover has announced prices for the MY18 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, with the big Rangie bearing a basic price tag of Rs 1.74 crore, and the Sport costing Rs 99.48 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The changes to the previous year’s car are subtle on the outside, while the inside does get a few important changes.
On the outside, the changes mainly involve the face — the grilles on both SUVs are new, and so are the clamshell bonnets, while the fender vents on the Sport have been tweaked as well. The two SUVs can be specced with Pixel-Laser LED headlights that detect oncoming traffic and turn of specific beams to prevent dazzling them, but you can also get them as Pixel-LEDs while the Matrix LEDs are standard. The big change on the inside is the addition of Touch Pro Duo, a dual touchscreen interface on the centre console that controls the infotainment system, climate control and seats. This system was first seen on the Range Rover Velar and now comes available on the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. In addition to all this, the Range Rover has gotten more luxurious, with additional features being offered in terms of massage functions, full-colour head-up display, gesture control for the sunroof and the ability to control the car’s climate control remotely through a phone app.
The Range Rover is offered as with a standard wheelbase (2.92m) or a long-wheelbase (3.12m), with the long wheelbase SUV boasting an addition 186mm of legroom. Both the Range Rover and the Sport come with a total of four engine options: two petrols and two diesels. The 3-litre V6 petrol makes 335bhp and 450Nm, while the 5-litre supercharged V8 petrol makes 518bhp and 625Nm. Meanwhile, the 3-litre V6 diesel makes 255bhp and 600Nm, while the 4.4-litre V8 diesel makes 335bhp and 740Nm. These SUVs stay true to the Land Rover brand and obviously boasts of brilliant off-road abilities. It gets an electronically controlled centre differential, low ratio transfer case and terrain Response. Both get air suspension, and the Range Rover additionally gets different ride height settings.
