Hyundai has extended its Eon line-up with the introduction of a new 1.0-litre Kappa motor. Priced at Rs 3.83 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) the Eon 1.0 Kappa is available only in Magna+ variant and will be sold alongside the 800cc Eon.

Developing 68bhp and 94Nm of torque, this new three-cylinder engine complies with Euro 5 norms and is teamed with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The company claims the higher capacity Eon won't be generating higher fuel bills as it promises to run 20.3km for a litre of petrol. And if you were wondering, the price difference between the smaller capacity Eon and the new variant is around Rs 28,000.

Hyundai claims this new all-aluminium engine is lighter and will improve fuel efficiency along with better performance. The company also states that the new engine will have minimised the noise, vibration & harshness (NVH) levels.

Expressing his views on the introduction of this new engine variant, BS Seo, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited said, “The 1.0-litre Kappa engine now offered in Eon is an extension of our modern-premium brand philosophy and will delight our customers with unparalleled driving experience and further consolidate Hyundai’s position in the domestic market.”

With the new 1.0 Kappa motor, the Eon will now have a slight advantage over its arch rival, the Maruti Alto 800, as far as engine performance goes. So will Maruti respond to this with a 1.0 litre K-series powered Alto? We hope it does.
