Mahindra launched an updated KUV 100, today. Coming less than two years since its launch, the refresh is aimed at making the car more appealing to an urban audience with a clever new facelift and more refinement.

On the outside, it gets a more prominent grille with dual-tone bumpers and an all-new headlamp cluster with DRLs. Mahindra has also introduced larger 15-inch diamond cut alloys which give the vehicle an upmarket feel. Good design cues continue at the rear. New clear lens tail-lamps look smart and gel well with the facelift.

But the more relevant changes are on the mechanical and inside the cabin. Powertrain options remains the same - 1.2-litre petrol and diesel - but Mahindra engineers have managed to improve overall NVH levels. Especially on the petrol front. New engine mounts are aimed at reducing vibrations. New KUV should also have a quieter engine thanks to better sound deadening from the dashboard side. The doors also get new sealant to reduce wind noise.

The cabin has been spruced up considerably with new colour schemes and fabric designs. On the launch cars, the KUV featured sporty all-black interiors. What was not shown to us was also another bluish colour scheme on offer. The car gets an all-new 7-inch touchscreen system for the top two variants. Also new air con switches and controls, manages to give the KUV a modern touch.

Mahindra says it will continue with the six-seater configuration as, strangely, demand for front bucket seats have been low key so far. Dual airbags will be standard across the range except the base model. While Mahindra used to sell higher variants with airbags as optional, it is now stopping that practice.

New KUV starts at ₹4.39 lakh (ex-Mumbai) for the base petrol with the diesel costing a lakh more onwards.

Stay tuned for the drive report.
