Launched: Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S
Maruti Suzuki's sedan gets new sporty aesthetics
Maruti Suzuki has been busy with the Ciaz this year. We knew it was going to move the model to its premium listing in the form of Nexa and we were also expecting it get its due facelift. The latter now seems unlikely. Its pricing made it one of the most value-for-money sedans with a spacious rear seat in its segment though the diesel SHVS mild-hybrid version was hit first with having its FAME subsidy revoked and then with GST levying a higher cess on hybrid cars. Nevertheless, the sales have been strong for the Ciaz and now Maruti has given it some sporty fairings and premium interiors for the new Ciaz S.
Like the RS that preceded it a couple of years ago, it's purely an aesthetic change. The Ciaz S gets a bootlid spoiler that's hard to miss and new sporty front and rear bumpers, side skirts too. The premium-feel enhancement continues on the inside with black interiors and black leather seats. The chrome gets a grey finish as another identifier. The Ciaz S has the same features as the top-end Alpha trim of the standard car, including the 16-inch alloys and the touchscreen infotainment system. Safety features like dual-front airbags and ABS with EBD are standard across all trims of the Ciaz.
Mechanically unchanged, the Ciaz S is available with both the 1.4-litre petrol (91bhp, 130Nm) and 1.3-diesel (89bhp, 200Nm) engines, with the 5-speed manual 'box and are priced at Rs 9.39 lakh and Rs 11.55 lakh respectively (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
