Launched: Mercedes E-Class

It’s the car that showed us Indians what a luxury car feels like. We mean the Mercedes E-Class. Back in the day, owning an E-Class was the last word when it came to announcing to the world that you had arrived. Since then, there have been several models and the E-Class has sported quite a few different looks.

And now there’s a new one. The E-Class has gone under the knife to get a new face. No, it’s not an all-new car, but it’s got a major facelift.

The new E also gets a bunch of new features like an updated COMAND system, reversing camera and Active Park Assist.

Merc has reduced the number of engines and trims and now will be available with one diesel and one petrol engine option. Merc says they’ve done this to avoid complexities when it comes to inventory management. It’ll be available only as an E200 CGI with 2-litre petrol block, and an E250 CDI with a 2.2-litre oil burner under the hood. The base models have been ditched and the new E will be available only in the top-end Avantgarde trim, but you can also have the E250 CDI 'Launch Edition' if you're quick, since it's limited to the first 100 units that will be brought in via the CBU route.

The new E-Class will be assembled at Merc’s Chakan facility just off Pune, and production will begin on 4th July.

The E200 CGI is priced at Rs 41.5 lakh, the E250 CDI is pegged at Rs 44.48 lakh, and the E250 CDI Launch Edition will be yours for Rs 49.9 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
