Launched: New Volkswagen Polo
Gets a new diesel motor, and some cosmetic changes. We have details...
You have to give Volkswagen credit for not resting on its laurels when it comes to the Polo. Over the years, the car has received numerous changes, be it in the form of minor facelifts, or plunking in the Vento engines for a GT version. There's also the Cross Polo, but let's not get there.
Today, the Polo that was launched is quite new in a number of traits. The new 1.5 TDI engine is a slightly downsized version of last generation's Polo GT TDI, producing 88bhp and 230Nm of spin. If you're more of a petrolhead, then there are two engine options on offer here - the three-cylinder 1.2-litre MPI, and the four-cylinder turbocharged 1.2-litre TSI that makes 103bhp of power backed by 175Nm of torque.
Besides the mechanical changes, the new Polo also comes with a new front grille, new front and rear bumpers and differently-designed 15-inch alloys. On the inside, the steering gets a flat bottom and audio controls. But the biggest boasting factor for VW seems to be the four-star NCAP safety rating that the new Polo has, thanks to introduction of front airbags across the range.
The car is available now at these ex-showroom, Delhi prices:
Polo 1.2 MPI: Rs 4.99 - 6.07 lakh
Polo 1.5 TDI: Rs 6.27 - 7.37 lakh
Cross Polo: Rs 7.90 lakh
Polo GT TDI and TSI: Rs 7.99 lakh
