Launched: two new variants of Volvo XC40
After just two weeks, the smallest SUV from the Swedes has already gained 200 bookings
Following the trail of its big brothers – the XC60 and the XC90 – the recently launched XC40 has a lot to live up to. And the baby-SUV from the Swedish carmaker may already be a hit given that it has received 200 bookings for the XC40 within the first two weeks of its launch.
The XC40 was launched with an introductory price of Rs 39.9 lakh and was only available in the R-Design trim. But now, Volvo has introduced the other two variants – the D4 Momentum and the D4 Inscription. In Volvo’s terminology, the Inscription trim sits at the top, followed by the R-Design trim and then the Momentum trim. The Inscription trim has been introduced at Rs 43.9 lakh, the Momentum and the R-Design are priced at Rs 39.9 lakh and 42.9 lakh, respectively (all prices are ex-showroom).
Mechanically, all the variants are identical. The XC40 uses a four-pot, turbocharged oil-burner. This 2-litre motor puts out 188bhp and 400Nm of torque and this power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The standard features across the XC40 range are: adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation system, lane keeping aid, rear parking sensors, park assist, hill start assist, hill descent control, LED headlights withactivehigh beam, two-zone climate control and so on. Additional to all the features that are mention above, the top-of-the-range Inscription trim and the R-Design trim receives some extra features like the power-operated tailgate, metal scuff plates, side step illumination, added chrome finishing and adaptive cruise control.
At this price, the XC40 rivals the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
