Mahindra has finally unveiled its electric vehicle, the e2o. The car will be available only in eight cities initially which include, Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Cochin. The e2o will be sold through existing Mahindra dealerships. There is only one version on sale and will be priced at Rs 5.96 lakh (on-road, Delhi). The Delhi government doles out excise benefits to electric vehicles and Mahindra hopes other states will also extend excise benefits to provide momentum.

Mahindra hopes to sell around 400-500 units of the e2o per month in the initial few months. The car will also be sold in Europe after it goes through stringent safety requirements that cars sold in EU have to meet. The e2o gets a 25bhp motor that will take a maximum time of five hours to be fully charged. Mahindra claims a top speed of 81kph and a range of 100kms on a full charge. The car is available in six colours.

Many innovative features separate it from the last Reva. The new car gets Lithium-ion batteries that replace the lead-acid batteries. The car can also be connected to your smartphone via an app and can be remotely started via the phone. You can also switch on the AC via the phone.

Is it the dawn of a new era for EVs in India?
