Maruti showcases the XA Alpha
The concept compact SUV, which could go on sale in a year's time
Mini SUV/MUV seems to be the theme this Auto Expo, and manufacturers are competing fiercely. Think of this one as Maruti's reply to the Ford Ecosport.
Being 4-metres in length the SUV will benefit from excise benefits which means pricing will be very competitive.
The Alpha design does seem quite masculine, and we noticed a hint of the Evoque in the front detailing. Especially in the large grille and the eagle-eyed headlamps.
The SUV is based on the new Swift paltform. Maruti will offer the production XA Alpha with its range of K-Series petrol engines and 1.3-litre DDIS diesel engine. Maruti is also planning a four-wheel drive version of the XA Alpha, but it seems like the car could take about an year to get into production.
If Maruti gets the pricing right the Alpha could well be the next big thing especially for those craving for the next Gypsy.
