There is no doubt that SUVs will continue to pull in the numbers for automotive manufacturers in the New Year. Little wonder then that India’s biggest car maker Maruti Suzuki will want a sizeable part of that pie too. Though there’s tough competition in the compact-SUV segment, it’s first compact offering the Vitara Brezza turned out a winner. Fresh from that success, Maruti Suzuki has now teased this all-new concept Future-S, which will be positioned below the Brezza.

Maruti will unveil the Future-S during this year’s Auto Expo. Commenting on the concept Future-S, Maruti Suzuki‘s Senior Executive Director CV Raman said, “The increasing preference for UVs and their bold architecture inspired our design team to study a new character for compact cars.”

He further added, “Concept Future-S could mark a distinctive shift in how compact cars are shaped and designed in India in the future.”
The teaser reveals that the upcoming compact SUV will have an upright stance, higher seating position and a bold persona. Maruti hasn’t revealed the engine specifications of the Future-S, yet, but it’s expected to have two engine options: a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel.

The competition between the smaller compact-SUV is relatively moderate for the time being. When launched, the car will compete with its own stablemate Ignis , Mahindra KUV-100 NXT and possibly, the upcoming sub compacts from Hyundai and Kia.
