The month of May is upon us, and it is shaping up to be an action-packed one. Mercedes-Benz is keen on regaining status quo in the Indian market, and is lining up an entire range of cars to be launched in the country before the end of this year. The new GL-Class was launched earlier this month, and much to our delight, the new A-Class hatchback is next in line.

To be launched with a choice of both petrol as well as diesel engines, the A-Class will be the cheapest Mercedes you can buy in the country. Specifically, a 1.6-litre petrol that puts out 120bhp and 200Nm of torque, and a 1.5-litre diesel producing 108bhp and 260Nm of torque - an engine which will also be available on the B-Class soon. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, as well as a 7-speed DCT automatic 'box.

The A-Class, as expected, will cost about Rs 2-3 lakh less than big brother B, and will act as the stepping stone to three-pointed star ownership when it is launched on May 30.

With the launch of the A-Class right around the corner, how far can the CLA be?
