Mercedes-Benz introduces the R-Class diesel
Mercedes plonks the 3.0L V6 diesel into the R350 CDI 4MATIC's engine bay
Mercedes-Benz's luxurious seven-seater, the R-Class, has done decently in terms of sales in the country. However, with petrol prices refusing to stabilise and customers rapidly shifting to diesel cars from petrol ones, MB decided it was time to bring in the more practical diesel option. So, after launching the petrol-V6 R-Class last year, Mercedes-Benz now also offer buyers a diesel-engined R-Class with the launch of the R350 CDI 4MATIC.
In addition to the chrome package, LED daytime-running lights and 18-inch alloys on the outside, the insides feature an electric sunroof, a six-disc CD changer, electrically adjustable telescopic steering wheel, memory seats, automatic climate control with air-conditioning for all three rows. Also, the R-Class gets MB's Direct-Steer system and air suspension at the rear.
The R350 CDI is equipped with a 2,987cc V6 diesel engine that produces 228 bhp and 540Nm of torque mated to the 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic gearbox, with MB's 4MATIC 4WD system sending power to all four wheels. The R350 CDI will also return 11.25kpl, as claimed by Mercedes-Benz.
Speaking at the launch of the vehicle, Mr.Debashis Mitra, Director of Sales & Marketing at Mercedes-Benz India said, “The R-350CDI CDI 4MATIC is the latest addition to the successful Mercedes-Benz R-Class stable. We are sure that the diesel variant of this crossover model will be an attractive proposition for our valuable customers."
Mercedes-Benz have priced the R350 CDI 4MATIC at Rs 58.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Does the idea of a diesel-powered R-Class float your boat, TopGear.commers?
