Mercedes G63 AMG is coming to India
2.6 tonnes of retro madness will be seen on Indian roads from next week
If you think that the G55 is not mad enough for you, then come this Feb, Merc brings the G63 AMG to our shores
An AMG-tuned, twin-turbocharged V8 that makes 536bhp and 760Nm of power, under the hood of any car can give some serious performance. Doesn’t matter if the car is a 2.6 tonne, 33-year-old off-roader that was developed for military use in the mid 70s.
All this power will get the G-Class from a standstill to 100 in 5.4sec and will push it to a top speed of 208kph.
The G55 AMG has been around for sometime now and by the looks of it, the country-invading SUV has found many loving owners in India. Just when you thought the G-Class could not get any older or potent than this, the guys at Mercedes have decide to get the G63 AMG to India.
Don’t be fooled by the 63 badge. The SUV is still lugged by a 5.5-litre engine but it now makes 29bhp and 60Nm more torque, thanks to those twin-turbos. To handle all that power, the five-speed auto 'box has been replaced by a seven-speed auto that sends power to all four wheels. All this power will get the G-Class from a standstill to 100 in 5.4sec and will push it to a top speed of 208kph.
On the surface, not much has changed (guess that’s reason we like it so much), except for daytime-running LEDs below the headlights and a sat-nav system inside.
The G55 AMG was priced at Rs 1.1 crore (ex-showroom Mumbai). We suspect the prices for this new G63 will escalate further north by around 20 lakh when it is launched on the 19th of this month.
For more information about the G63, stay tuned.
