Mercedes ML63 AMG launched
It’s the fastest SUV to come out of the AMG factory. And at Rs 1.49 crore, it’s the cheapest AMG SUV too
Zero to 100kph in 4.7 seconds, that’s how quick Mercedes claims its latest SUV from Affalterbach can go. And that very SUV, called the ML63 AMG, is now available in India at an asking price of Rs 1.49 crore, ex-showroom, Delhi.
Yes, we too aren’t really jumping with joy looking at the price tag that’s around Rs 80 lakh more than the ML350 CDI. But then, what you get for a crore and a half is an immensely powerful SUV that’s stuffed to the gills with the latest tech, which promises to make the ML63 AMG quite an interesting product.
And the interesting part starts here. At the heart of this family-size performance vehicle is AMG’s twin-turbo, 5.5-litre V8 with a Performance Pack that drives up the power figures to 550bhp and 760Nm of max torque. That’s the same unit powering the E63 AMG, G63 AMG and the recently-launched GL63 AMG. Shifting duties are handled by the AMG Speedshift Plus seven-speed automatic transmission, which brings to the table three driving programs – Eco, Sport and Manual, along with flappy paddle-shifts.
It’s not only about going fast: Mercedes has equipped it with a bouquet of advanced suspension trickery that should take good care of our road conditions. And you get to choose from Comfort, Sport and Sport+, depending on the road surface you would be driving on. In standard trim, the ML63 AMG rides on 20-inch five-spoke AMG alloys wrapped in 265/45 tyres.
When you pay Rs 1.49 crore for a performance SUV, Mercedes will make sure you travel in style, comfort and cocooned with top-deck safety features. In terms of design, the ML63 AMG gets tweaked bumpers with bigger air dams, added chrome on the outsides, chunkier wheel arches to fit those fatter tyres, and AMG and V8 biturbo badges, just in case you need to brag about them at a parking lot.
But does the Porsche Cayenne, which has been the benchmark of performance SUVs, have anything to worry about? Read our review here...
