Mitsubishi's new MPV unveiled
Latest 7-seater from Mitsubishi to be showcased at Indonesian auto show in August
Mitsubishi has taken the cover off its latest MPV and this is it. While the official name is yet to be announced, the carmaker simply refers to it as its Next Generation MPV while others on the internet suspect it to be called the Expander. It will be launched in Indonesia first after being showcased at the Indonesia International Auto Show 2017.
Mitsubishi says this new vehicle combines the ruggedness of an SUV with the spaciousness of an MPV. The company claims it to be larger and wider than its competitors (in its markets, like the Suzuki Ertiga and the Honda Mobilio) measuring at 4475mm (L) x 1750mm (W) x 1700mm (H) and a ground clearance of 205mm when running on 16inch tyres. The category being small-MPVs powered by a maximum 1.5-litre displacement engine. That brings us to the power unit to be offered, a 1.5-litre MIVEC engine mated to either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT to deliver power to the front wheels. No word on power output just yet.
In terms of styling, this 'Next Generation MPV' does have aggressive lines for a more SUV-esque look while sporting the 'Dynamic Shield' design at the front, like the upcoming Outlander. The rugged looking front fascia sports three tiers of lights, with the thin DRLs just below the hood cover, the massive headlights are mounted lower in the large gaping housings and the fog-lights sit below that. The styling in profile and at the rear is a lot more restrained and easy on the eyes. Let us know in the comments what you think of the styling.
The interiors are quite beige with the ergonomics focussing more on space for both passenger and luggage. It also features an infotainment screen mounted on the dash above the vents. Mitsubishi is unlikely to bring this 'Next Generation MPV' to India at the current time but it will be launching the new Outlander later this year.
