Hyundai has brought back its defunct-since four years Elantra sedan. The car that had gone off the buyers radar primarily due to its plain Jane looks now follows Hyundai’s fluidic styling cues and looks like a stunner but a tad too similar to the smaller Verna. It’s exactly the same car that Hyundai launched last year in the USA.

Pricing for the car starts at Rs 12.51 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base S version petrol. The base diesel version comes for Rs 12.91 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The base version is pretty well equipped and gets features like rear AC vents, dual airbags, ABS and EDB, along with 16-inch alloys, air-cooled glovebox and even a stereo among other things making it a well loaded car indeed.

Elantra’s top variants get some useful features like ventilated front seats, hill start assist (on automatics), cruise control and silica tyres (which reduce rolling resistance for better efficiency).

Power comes from a 1.6-litre VGT CRDi engine with 126bhp and a 1.8-litre petrol dual VTVT engine with 147bhp of power on tap. The Elantra has an ARAI-rated, class-best, 22.7kpl for the 1.6-litre diesel engine, while the 1.8-litre petrol gives 16.3kpl.

Here are the prices of the entire range, Hyundai says they are introductory, and will be upped in a few weeks:

S- Rs 12.51 lakh
SX – Rs 13.74 lakh
SX AT – Rs 14.74 lakh

1.6 CRDi
BASE - Rs 12.91 lakh
S- Rs 13.64 lakh
SX- Rs 14.85 lakh
SX AT – Rs 15.85 lakh

(All prices ex-showroom, Delhi)
