You knew about the new Czech sedan but the German hatchback was a shocker, no?

You’ve seen the new Octavia in several motor shows and the buzz is that it’s coming to India. Very soon, that it. Here’s proof. Our reader, Zubin Antalia, sent us these pictures of it doing test runs right in the centre of Mumbai. We already have the details of the new Octavia right here.

What’s surprising is that Zubin also spotted the VW Golf Mark VII being tested in Mumbai. These pictures suggest that soon you’ll have another proven hatchback from Volkswagen’s stable in India along with the Polo. It’s even a probability that VW is just testing the new Golf in rough Indian conditions without having any intentions of getting one here. The Golf is bigger and more expensive than the Polo, and internationally there are a bunch of engines that power the Golf. The petrol engine range includes a 1.2 TSI petrol block that churns out 104bhp and a 1.4 TSI that’s good for 121bhp. And the diesel range includes 1.6-litre unit that develops 104bhp and a 2-litre block that puts out a massive 149bhp.

There’s still no news what engine or transmission will the Golf have under its hood. You’ll have to wait for a few months before we give you all the dope about it. Till then, fancy the new Octavia.
