While Michael Mayer has gone on to take up the role of Head of Sales and Marketing for Volkswagen passenger cars in China, replacing him as Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars India is Steffen Knapp.

Knapp has previously held leadership roles in different parts of Europe for brands like Seat and Ford and has been responsible for several strategic and managerial roles before that. The 48-year old German, who is now responsible for raking up the business for VW's passenger car division in India, will be reporting to Thierry Lespiaucq, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited.

Michael Mayer had been appointed as Director back in June 2014 at age 45, and it was under him that VW brought GTI and the Tiguan to India. Steffen Knapp, meanwhile, has his work cut out for him, with Volkswagen fighting hard to get a bigger share in the Indian automotive industry.
