Suzuki's seven-seat Wagon R shows up at IIMS '13
Surprise, surprise - look what Suzuki brought along towards the end of the Indonesian Motor Show 2013
The slightly-stretched Wagon R you see in these pictures is, actually, a seven-seat MPV. Welcome everyone, to the Suzuki Wagon R 3 Rows Concept.
The name is a bit too straightforward, yes, but then the Wagon R is a straightforward car. This is a concept previewed by Suzuki at the 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show, and it is nothing but a Wagon R with an added row of seats.
Not much details to share, here, but what we do know is that the wheelbase of the 3 Rows Concept is the same as that of the hatchback. The rear overhang has been lengthened to help accommodate that third row, but even that doesn't look like enough bodywork to push the car's length (3599mm in hatchback form, remember) to over four metres. There's a shot of the last bench too, and it looks good enough for two human beings. Just to remind you, Datsun showed something similar in the form of the Go+ earlier this month.
Suzuki says that the concept was shown in Indonesia to get an idea of what people thought about something like this, and how much would they be willing to pay for it. To us, it looks a bit like this: boxy dimensions mean immensely airy interiors, and Maruti could well chuck in the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine along with a slightly reworked version of the 1-litre K-Series petrol, and before you know it, the mini-MPV segment could be the next big thing. Could this be the Ertiga's cheaper sibling?
Nissan has their own version of the popular Duster. And in many ways, the Terrano is a notch above Renault's offering. It's all there in our video review. ..Watch full Video
