The G-Class has had some major historical significance. In the 30 years of production, it has been spotted everywhere - from being a Hollywood hot favourite, to getting issued by the US Army. Even Pope Benedict uses one of these.

Now the newly launched Mercedes-Benz G 55 AMG will finally face its toughest challenge - Indian roads!

The good news is that it's got a great big AMG tuned 5.5 litre V8 engine with 507 bhp and maximum torque of 700 nm, which makes it the most powerful off-roader in production. It can easily pull a 0 to 100 kph in 5.5 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 210 kph.

The power comes with some great safety features as well, the most interesting of which is the Hill Start Assist that stops the vehicle from accidentally rolling away on slopes.

The G 55 AMG is priced at Rs 1.1 crores (ex-showroom Mumbai) and will start delivery by early March 2011. Bookings are open now.
