This is the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
The hybrid SUV receives a slight power bump as well as some styling tweaks
What you are looking at is the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. And by no means should you confuse it with the standard Outlander. In Mitsubishi’s terminology, PHEV represents the hybrid range of the Japanese carmaker. The hybrid SUV was launched back in 2013 and has received some significant updates over the years. And now, Mitsubishi has updated the Outlander PHEV for the model year 2019.
The 2019 Outlander PHEV has received some small changes on the outside. The front LED headlamps, and the front and the rear bumpers have gone under the knife. The updated Outlander PHEV now also sits on new 18-inch alloy wheels.
The interior of the PHEV remains the same as the previous model. It still gets an LCD display, 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, heated steering wheel and heated seats at the front, dual-zone climate control, USB connectivity and so on. But there’s one major update; the seven-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is now standard across the variants.
There are some significant changes under the hood. The displacement has gone up from 2.0 litre to 2.4 litre translating to a 10 per cent bump in power. The petrol motor now churns out 136bhp and 211Nm of torque (an increase of 17bhp and 21Nm over the previous motor). Even the electric motors are now slightly more potent; at 95bhp, the electric powertrain has 13bhp more than the previous one. There are three drive modes on offer – EV mode, series hybrid mode and parallel hybrid mode. This 1.8 tonne SUV is capable of sprinting from 0-100kph in 10.5s and is capable of hitting 170kph.
In terms of features, it gets adaptive cruise control, forward collision system, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, ABS with EBD, seven airbags, brake assist and front and rear parking sensors.
Although Mitsubishi has launched the 2018 Outlander in India, the Japanese carmaker has not yet revealed when the hybrid variant will land on our shores.
