Toyota's Etios and Etios Liva are highly practical, if slightly unexciting cars. The Etios has done well in the Indian market, but the Etios Liva hasn't had quite the impact expected of a small, affordable Toyota.

Now, Toyota has refreshed both cars, and has introduced a 1.5-litre petrol engine option on the Etios Liva along with a new base diesel variant, among other changes.

The Etios and the Liva now get a tweaked chrome grille, re-designed tail-lamps, new ORVM-mounted side indicators and a new classic grey paint scheme, chosen carefully from Fifty Shades of Grey. Okay, sorry.

On the inside, the major changes include beige interiors, a new audio system with Aux-in, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, new seats with adjustable headrests (a welcome addition), blue illumination for the instrument cluster and a new AC control panel.

Also, the Liva gets two new variants. The TRD Sportivo, which was a limited-edition variant earlier, has now been made standard in the line-up. This variant will now be available with the same 1.5-litre petrol motor as seen on the sedan, along with the same TRD Sportivo exterior kit as before.

The second variant is the J Diesel, which will now be the entry point to Etios Liva Diesel ownership.

Mr. Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, Marketing and Commercial said at the launch, "As a part of our product lifecycle and with the aim to bring newness to the lineup we are launching the New Etios and Etios Liva. We have incorporated customer feedback and are looking forward to delighting more customers with the new vehicles. The whole lineup is aimed at giving the customers the latest in features and looks, adding to its style quotient."

The new Etios petrol range starts at Rs 5.45 lakh for the J variant, Rs 5.99 lakh for the G, Rs 6.47 lakh for the G SP, Rs 6.69 lakh for the V and Rs 7.08 lakh for the V SP, whereas the Etios diesel range starts at Rs 6.70 lakh for the base JD, Rs 7.07 lakh for the GD, Rs 7.55 lakh for the GD SP, Rs 7.76 lakh for the VD and Rs 8.15 lakh for the range-topping VD SP.

Prices for the refreshed Liva have been updated too - the petrol range starts at Rs 4.46 lakh for the J variant, Rs 4.89 lakh for the G, Rs 5.38 lakh for the G SP, Rs 5.60 lakh for the V and Rs 5.99 lakh for the V SP, with the hot new TRD Sportivo priced at Rs 6.13 lakh. The Liva diesel starts with the new J variant, priced at Rs 5.72 lakh, Rs 5.99 lakh for the GD and Rs 6.38 lakh for the GD SP (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
