Toyota has taken the wraps off the new Corolla Altis. The new car was unveiled by the company’s new India head, Naomi Ishii who took over as Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s Managing Director this year.

The new car has a more spacious interior with more legroom at the rear. The rear backrest too reclines now for added comfort. The Corolla is among the Japanese car company’s biggest sellers worldwide. While globally it has sold over 1.4 crore units, in India Toyota has put nearly 80,000 on our roads in the last one decade.

The new car has a nice edgy profile. From the front it gets an extra large grille and headlamps designed to look like one unit. We are not sure if that’s the best thing but does make it look different from the current car. The rear tail-lamps get a sharper, edgier feel which makes the car look more modern from the rear.

The car will be launched in May this year and will get both petrol and diesel engine options. There is also a new 7-speed automatic gearbox available as an option apart from the standard 6-speed manual one.
