Toyota's Fortuner gets 5-speed auto

The Toyota Fortuner has since its introduction been a sensation in its segment. The market gobbled up units faster than Toyota could produce them. The manual gearbox-equipped ones were a hit, and the automatic variant saw good demand too. Toyota however, works on customer feedback, and as per buyers' inputs, has now replaced the 4-speed automatic gearbox with a new 5-speed auto'box. We expect this new transmission to boost the Fortuner's efficiency figures.

Also, the TRD Sportivo variant, only available as a limited-edition model up until now, has now been turned into a regular grade owing to its popularity.

Commenting on the new introduction, Mr. Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, Marketing and Commercial said, "Further adding to Fortuner’s strength of unmatched road presence and luxury, we have now introduced the 5 speed automatic transmission. The 4x2 automatic transmission is extremely popular, it has been highly appreciated by the customers. The 5 speed AT will further add to the drive quality and comfort.  We introduced the Fortuner TRD Sportivo as a limited edition in October last year. Looking at the overwhelming response and its popularity, we have now regularized this grade for all those looking for a unique sporty image".

The new five-speed Fortuner 4x2 AT has been priced at Rs 22.33 lakh, the TRD Sportivo 4x2 A/T will cost Rs 22.93 lakh and the manual-equipped TRD Sportivo 4x2 will retail at Rs 21.96 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi), with bookings open from January 18.

Will the new auto 'box help make the Fortuner the perfect automatic seven-seater? Watch this space, dotcommers.
