Unveiled: 2018 Audi A6
The 2018 A6 gets mild-hybrid tech across the range and a redesigned centre console
Without making any reference to the age-old rivalry between the three top-dogs of the luxury sedan segment in India, I’ll cut right to the chase. Audi has unveiled the 2018 A6, it gets the new mild-hybrid technology from its other siblings – A8 and the A7.
Even though there are some noteworthy styling changes at the front, you’ll still end up saying “hmm, this looks just like the old one”. We don't blame you for that. The front of the car shares some design cues from the A7. Like the big hexagonal grille, front air scoops and the character lines on the bonnet. The eighth-gen A6 will also be a tad more spacious; it’s now 7mm longer and 12mm wider.
The inside of the new A6 is no less than Tony Starks’ lab. You can control everything from the two touchscreens. From navigation to set up the temperature, you just need to swipe on the touchscreens. There are now 30 colours you can choose from to light up the interior. The top-spec A6 will also get Audi’s uber cool matrix headlights.
Under the hood, there are three different engines you can choose from – a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol, a 3.0-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre diesel. The 3.0-litre oil burner gets Audi’s eight-speed tiptronic gearbox and the turbocharged V6 gets a seven-speed S tronic auto ’box. From now the A6 will be offered as an automatic variant only. For the first time, the A6 will get a mild-hybrid system throughout the range. The carmaker claims that this system will help you save 0.7 litre of fuel per 100 km. With all-wheel steering, the new A6 gets four different variants of suspension setup –steel spring suspension, sport suspension, suspension with damper control and the adaptive air suspension.
Audi hasn’t revealed anything about its India launch. So, I guess we should wait until it breaks covers in Geneva.
