Updated Mercedes GLA to launch on July 5
Latest Merc crossover is coming
Mercedes-Benz India has been very busy this year already, what with the new generation, long-wheelbase E-Class, then its all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine, and more recently, the performance SUVs from the AMG branch. Up next, the German carmaker is bringing in the updated GLA.
It's a tough game of spot the difference to see what's new, though. Mercedes answers, pointing to new alloy wheels, modified bumpers, new grille and new LEDs in place of the old bi-xenon headlights. While it may be one of the more subtle facelifts in recent memory, the new GLA is also more aerodynamic with revisions to the front splitter, rear spoiler and rear diffuser. A plus point of improved aerodynamics for this segment, apart from improving the overall performance of this crossover, is improved fuel efficiency.
Mechanically, it is likely to be unchanged with the same two engines on offer, the 2.0-litre turbo petrol that makes 181bhp and 300Nm, and the 2.0-litre oil burner that makes 134bhp and 300Nm of torque. Both engines come paired with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Whether Mercedes will offer the updated GLA with its new diesel engine, the one that's in the new E220d, is not yet confirmed, but it is probable.
When introduced internationally, the highlight of the updated GLA lineup was the new AMG GLA 45 but when that variant will come to India is unclear at this point. The standard GLA is expected to be launched at a slight premium, with prices ranging between Rs 38 - 42 lakh (ex-showroom).
